This full day workshop addresses the impacts of colonisation, intergenerational trauma, deep healing and how to respond to someone having thoughts of suicide using our 4 step model.
This 1 day workshop dives deep into the root issues faced by Indigenous Australians and how by understanding these root traumas we can begin to heal collectively consequently addressing suicide rates in country.
This full-day workshop addresses the comprehensive impacts of colonisation, intergenerational trauma, deep healing processes, and how to respond effectively to someone experiencing thoughts of suicide using Connection Works 4-step model.
It's designed to dive deep into the root issues faced by Indigenous Australians, acknowledging that these issues are not merely surface level but deeply embedded in the historical and socio-cultural fabric. By understanding these root traumas, we can begin to heal collectively, which in turn addresses the rising suicide rates in the country.
Viewing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health through a holistic lens means recognising that health is multi-faceted, encompassing physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. The fallout from colonisation includes not only the physical dispossession of land but also the erosion of cultural identity, disruption of community cohesion, and psychological scars that span generations. The legacy of these traumas manifests in profound ways that cannot be effectively addressed through conventional health paradigms alone.
Our workshop teaches participants to adopt a holistic approach to healing, highlighting the significance of cultural practices, community ties, and spiritual beliefs as integral elements of health. The four-step model we're promoting is not a clinical response to suicide, but one that's deeply grounded in cultural sensitivity and community engagement. It equips participants with culturally appropriate tools to recognise early warning signs, provide immediate support, and foster long-term resilience within Indigenous communities.
This holistic approach also emphasises the importance of listening and validating the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. By truly understanding the socio-historical context that underpins current health disparities, participants are better prepared to engage in meaningful dialogue and support healing initiatives that are led by Indigenous voices.
By participating in this workshop, organisations, health practitioners, and community leaders will gain a deeper appreciation of the interconnectedness of Indigenous health issues and learn how to leverage this understanding to advocate for and implement more effective and respectful health interventions. Collectively, this knowledge fosters a community-wide movement towards healing, and significantly reducing suicide rates among Indigenous Australians through culturally informed practices and solutions.
